Summer weekends are busiest on First to Fourth Lake. The 90-Miler starts here the weekend after Labor Day.
Eight lakes from Old Forge to Inlet, and the 90-Miler start.
A string of eight numbered lakes on the dammed Moose River, from Old Forge Pond up through Fourth Lake to Inlet, then quieter Fifth to Eighth Lakes with two short carries. The big lakes fill with pontoons and motorboats in summer, so paddlers go early, stick to the coves, or take a shuttle float down the gentle North Branch of the Moose. It’s the start of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail and an easy trip from the Utica and Rome area.
