Elkhorn Slough
Sea kayaking in Moss Landing
Good all year. Spring brings otter and seal pups; fall often has the clearest, calmest weather. Plan around the tide and the afternoon wind.
Monterey Bay Kayaks Elkhorn Slough 2026; single sit-on-top $53, 1.5-hr family tour $60
Sea otters at arm’s length in a tidal estuary.
A winding tidal slough off Monterey Bay where rafts of sea otters, harbor seals and huge flocks of shorebirds share calm, protected water. You launch in Moss Landing and ride the tide inland, then come back before the afternoon wind fills in. It is one of the easiest places in California for a first-timer to see otters from a kayak.
