Canoe route in Wells

Off season now · May – Sep

Registration centre staffed May 15 to Sep 30. Lakes are usually ice-free by mid-May and snow can arrive by late September. July and August are busiest; May, June and September are quieter.

C$170 canoe, West Side trip

Bear River Mercantile 2026 tandem rate plus tax ($200 for the full circuit). Circuit fees, an $18 vessel fee and, from 2027, a $20 non-resident fee are extra.

A 116 km ring of lakes and portages in the Cariboos.

A chain of ten lakes, rivers and well-built portage trails that loops through the Cariboo Mountains, with moose, bears and old trappers’ cabins along the way. The full circuit takes six to ten days; the West Side is a gentler two-to-four-day sampler. It suits paddlers with some wilderness canoe experience who plan ahead, because departures are capped and reservations go fast.
