Winter desert base with dark skies and a palm canyon.

The developed campground by Anza-Borrego’s visitor center, at the mouth of Borrego Palm Canyon in California’s largest state park. The canyon trail starts from camp, the skies are very dark, and full-hookup pull-throughs sit next to tent loops with hot showers. It’s a winter base for wildflowers, bighorn sheep and Borrego Springs’ giant metal sculptures; summer is brutally hot and several loops close.
